What do I do if my child is sick?

Should your child be unwell, you may need to arrange for them to be kept at home until they are well enough to return to the nursery. This is for the benefit of the staff and the other children. We would ask that you make us aware of your child’s sickness so that we can monitor the other children in the nursery, if applicable.

Should your child be unwell whilst at the nursery we will contact you and your child may need to be taken home.

In both of the above situations, we ask that your child is kept away from nursery for a minimum of 48 hours in order to reduce the risk of infection to other children and staff.

The nursery will administer medicine, either non-prescribed or prescribed, which must be clearly labelled with the child's name. Parents are requested to give the medicine to a member of staff who will then ask them to complete and sign a medication form. Medicines are then stored in a safe and secure place and administered by a nominated member of staff, as per the instructions stated on the box or bottle. See our Sickness and Medication Policy for for further details.

When you come to collect your child from the nursery you will be shown the records of any medication administered and asked to counter-sign our Medication Record Book.

Full fees are payable during absence due to sickness in order to keep your child’s place open.
